As a hosting company, it was becoming tedious to try and locate errors in a client's .htaccess file. Manual methods included loading it in a test directory, splitting the file to isolate the error, or running an Apache syntax check repepatedly eliminating errors one by one.
We developed an internal script to automate much of this. We realized that our clients and any webmaster could benefit from a checker that could quickly identify any syntax errors before the .htaccess file was put in their site.
